A young wood-cutter

Grateful Crane
Long long ago, there lived a young wood-cutter in a mountain.
One day when he was cutting a tall tree over a huge waterfall in the mountain, he happened to drop his ax into the basin of the waterfall.
Then, as something strange and huge, like a red rock floated up on the water, he began to run away.
He thought that a monster living there must have got angry at him but he heard himself called by a beautiful voice,
“Young Man, wait, please wait.”
He looked back to see a beautiful angel standing with his ax in her hand over the water.
“I’m very sorry to have dropped my ax in the waterfall. That is mine.” he said, pointing at his ax.
“Thank you very much for helping me. I’m an angel living in this waterfall for a long time. These days, this giant crab liked here and began to live here. I was so afraid of it because it was so barbarous. But as your ax dropped,it hit on the crab and killed it. Now I can live the same peaceful life that I used to. If you wish something, I’ll grant your wish.” said the angel.
“I have a sick wife at home. I do hope she’ll be well as she used to be. That’s the only wish of mine.” he said and got his ax again from her.
When he came home, his wife in good health was preparing for dinner.
He lived a happy life with his wife for the rest of life.
