There was a man named Lakah in Egypt.I first met this man at the International Congress of Radiorogy (ICR) in Belgium.I think it was 1982. Three big men appeared in the exhibition hall attached to the conference and approached me.And he asked me, “Are you Mr. Sato?”Mr. Inomata of Nissho Iwai accompanied them there.Until this time, I had no acquaintance with Mr. Inomata. Mr. Inomata told me that Mr. Lakah wanted to have lunch with me. I okay and went to the designated restaurant. It was just like being abducted in Belgium. At this time, Mr. Lakah would have been in his early twenties. Still, he probably didn’t know anything about the world of medical device sales. I didn’t get that strong impression from him. Then, about six years later, I became the chief of the commercial group. One day, Mr. Inomata of Nissho Iwai asked me to go to Egypt. I immediately agreed to go to Egypt. And I entered Egypt. Mr. Inomata was already in and met at the hotel. The next day, we had a meeting at Mr. Lakah’s office immediately. I asked Mr. Inomata to proceed with the usual meeting, and I was looking at the scene sideways. Mr. Inomata made a one-year sales budget. Mr. Inomata and Mr. Lakah summarized the model, quantity and suggested purchase price. The meeting entered the final stage around 8 pm. Because after the meeting we were invited to eat at Mr. Lakah’s house. At the end, I asked why Mr. Lakah sells only cheap X-ray equipment and ultrasonic diagnostic equipment. Then, both of them showed a stunned expression. And Inomata asked me.”Can we sell CT?”I answered as a matter of course.”From now on, if you don’t sell CT, you will lose the competition. You have to sell not only CT but also cardiovascular equipment and MRI.”At this time, Mr. Lakah changed his facial expression in an instant.I explained to Mr. Lakah that if you don’t sell high-priced items, you can’t make a profit from the service.I added more. There are only four high-priced medical device manufacturers in the world. Therefore, if you win, you can dominate the business of the Ministry of Health (MOH). After hearing this explanation from me, Mr. Lakah turned into a refreshing look. Then, a few years later, Mr. Lakah turned into a person who sells CT, cardiovascular equipment, and MRI at an astonishing speed. After all, that night we couldn’t go to Mr. Lakah’s house, and the talk bounced and we left the office at midnight.I ate a sandwich with Mr. Inomata at the hotel and went to bed.
